Canada Is About To Pass Sopa’s Evil Little Brother. Politely.
“I’m a Canadian.
We’re a quiet bunch; prone to enjoying hockey, drinking stronger beer than our friends south of the border, and lovers of fries smothered in cheese curds and gravy.
We also, apparently, have an inferiority complex when it comes to being evil dirt bags, because we’ve decided to pass our very own version of SOPA up here.
Only better*
Meet Bill-C11. Formerly Bill C-32. (I think they thought if they made the number lower people would care less about it?)
{…}
But, as innocuous as it sounds, C-11 does a whole lot that SOPA did with a few extra twists you might not find in the Wikipedia write-up.
Like your PVR? You can’t keep it under C-11.
Like ripping CDs to your iPod? Say bye-bye.
Hey, do you want to be able to unlock your $500 smartphone and take it to a provider less dedicated to violating your wallet? That won’t be allowed either.
Did you get accused of internet piracy but no evidence has been presented and a trial date hasn’t even been set? Under C-11 your ISP will now be forced to terminate your internet access.
And people say that governments can’t be bought.
{…}
There are only 14 days left people. Get active.”

GUYS. Apparently, Obama has all ready signed ACTA. Possibly illegally.
You can read more about it here.
If you live in the United States, PLEASE sign this petition to get ACTA reviewed by the Senate.
Otherwise, keep spreading the word about ACTA!

ACTA in a Nutshell –
What is ACTA? ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.
Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”
What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.
COME ON HOW DOES THIS HAVE SO LITTLE NOTES?WAKE UUUUUPPPPGuys, I’ve been reblogging ACTA-related notices over the past two days or so, and I won’t be stopping. This issue is serious and worth your attention. Please, even if we can only take limited action as of present, try to spread the word and raise awareness about it. Come on, step up and join the movement to get the word out about ACTA.
I think people just haven’t realized that ACTA is a much more bigger deal than SOPA/PIPA ever was. Not only is it expanded and is global, but it is going to watch anything you share or can do on the internet. People complained about no privacy with the SOPA/PIPA. Imagine that but 100x worse. That’s the ACTA. REBLOG AND SPREAD THE WORD. This has a very good chance of passing due to the little rebellion and protest against it compared to the amount SOPA/PIPA had!
not unimportant to mention: ACTA is a huge fan of the ‘three-strikes-out’, meaning you get BANNED from the internet after three warnings you’re downloading copyrighted material. In France this is already law. This nonsense HAS to stop. ACCES TO INTERNET IS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT.
plus, ACTA wants content filtering. ACTA member countries will be required to provide for third-party (Internet Intermediary) liability. This means ISPs will face heightened liability for websites that even link to allegedly infringing content. Websites would have to proactively police copyright on user-contributed material. This means that Tumblr, Flickr, Youtube and whatnot would have to employ a phalanx of lawyers to ensure that the mountain of material uploaded every second isn’t infringing on anyone’s copyright. This would simply mean the end of these sites, because even if there’s no copyright infringement, it will be too expensive to do.
Fucking spread this shit like wildfire, the fight’s long from over after SOPA/PIPA

Ick. Stupid online-friend-degrading post on my dash. =[
I die inside whenever I see such a thing because I care about my online friends just as much as my offline friends.
And I hate when people use the terms “real life” for referring to people they know not online. It’s extremely downgrading, as if the people on the other side of chat windows and digital messages are nothing but artificial data and not a living, breathing human beings who thought about what they wrote to you.
It hurts even more when I see people downgrading online friends and essentially tossing them aside. Especially since I’m sure I have friends like that and it hurts to think about it.
The Internet is integrated into my “real life”, if that’s what you want to call, even when I’m not using it and not connected to it. Information, knowledge, and friends I made are still all there and I keep in contact with. From online to offline is so fluid for me, there’s not much of a difference. Only that I can’t meet up with a handful of these friends in person because they live somewhere far away.
Yeah.
…now I need to get back to this drawing. Blah.

The Internet dying and giving me that message to certain websites always makes me feel like that meme…
Too perfect.
(It does this a lot, by the way.)
My friend’s Internet is running slow and he lives in the UK.
My Internet is running slow and I live in the USA.
